Our history / Meidän tarinamme
Oli vuosi 1962 kun äitini käveli isotätinsä Lyylin tekstiililiikkeeseen. Se sijaitsi puutalossa Hämeenkadulla, rautatien läheisyydessä, Riihimäellä. Lyyli-tädiksi häntä kutsuttiin tuolloin.
Siitä alkaakin sitten meidän tarinamme...
Vuosia kuluu ja kesät vaihtuvat syksyiksi monta kertaa. Sitten tulee eräs talvi vuonna 2015, joka muuttaa kaiken. Se on aivan tavallinen päivä. Istumme äitini kanssa keittiössä ja hän kysyy: " Minkä nimen antaisimme yritykselle?" Pyörittelemme mielessämme mitä kummallisempia ja hassuja nimiä. Sitten minä sanon:" Entäs Green & Gables Interior." Nimivalintaan vaikutti silloin suuresti kirja, jota olin lukenut ja siitä 80-luvulla on tehty televisiosarjakin. Moni sen varmasti voikin arvata. Oli siinä myös viittaus päätykolmioon (=gable), joka löytyi vanhan talomme vintin päädystä. Talo myös muistutti tuota kirjan taloa koska siinä oli aiemmin vihreäksi maalattu katto. Päädyimme tuohon nimeen ja siitä alkoi myös samalla Kartanopuotimme tarina. Siellä pidimme muutaman vuoden sesonkipuotia lampaiden, kanojen ja kissojen ympäröiminä.
Pieni puotimme oli kovin tykätty, mutta äidilläni oli haave. Siihen kuului pieni puoti Helsingissä. Olin saanut kuulla siitä useasti välillä kyllästymiseen asti. Minä olin valmistunut sisustusarkkitehdiksi mutten oikein tiennyt mitä sittenkin haluaisin tehdä. Kauniista esineistä olen tykännyt aina, niin ja matkustamisesta, väreistä ja hieman oman tien kulkemisesta.
Äitini oli etsinyt sopivaa liiketilaa ja lopulta sellainen löytyi. Se oli pieni liike Fredrikinkadulla. Äitini riemastui, ja seuraavina viikkoina hän laittoi kaiken tarmonsa peliin koska äiti osaa olla kovin tarmokas kun sille tuulelle sattuu, ja aloitti uuden sivun tarinassamme...
Sen nimeksi tuli Koti Store.
Our history:
It was the year 1962 when my mother walked into her great aunt Lyyli's textile store. It was located in an old wooden house on Hämeenkatu, near the railway, in Riihimäki. At that time, she was called Aunt Lyyli. That's where our story begins...
Years pass and summers turn into autumns many times. Then comes one winter in 2015 that changes everything. It's just a normal day. My mother and I were sitting in the kitchen and she asks: "How should we name our company?" We were spinning the strangest and funniest names in our minds. Then I said, "How about Green & Gables Interior." A name that was greatly influenced by a book I had read, which was also made into a television series in the 80s. There was also a reference to the end triangle (=gable), which was found at the gable end of our old farm house. The house also resembled that house in the book (or how I imagined it to look like) because it used to have a green painted roof. We ended up with that name, and that's also where the story of Kartanopuoti began. There we ran a seasonal shop for a few years, surrounded by sheep, chickens and cats. Those were merry years but we decided after few years that it was time to move on.
Our little country store was very well loved and we had many visitors, but my mother had a dream. This included a small shop in Helsinki. I had graduated as an interior architect, but I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I've always loved beautiful things, as well as traveling, colors and a bit of doing things differently and my own way. My mother had been looking for a suitable business space and finally she found one. It was a small store on Fredrikinkatu. My mother was overjoyed, and in the following weeks she put all her energy into our new business and started a new chapter in the story of our family business...

Maybe one day you'll find our Koti Store in Japan, America or New Zealand, but right now we are happy in Finland. You are always warmly welcome to our little shop.
Minulle hän olisi ollut isoisotäti. En häntä koskaan tavannut, ja vasta vähän aikaa sitten näin hänet tuossa kuvassa.
